SHOT BY POLICEMAN.
James Wickersham Fatally Wonded by Robert Colyer at Somerset.
Someset, Ky., Dec 30.--(Special)--At 9 o'clock this evening Robert Colyer, a policeman of this place, shot and it thought, fatally wounded James Wickersham, of this place. Wickersham had been drinking and raising a disturbance. Colyer claims that he attempted to quiet Wickersham, when the latter pulled a gun. Colyer says he backed to where he cold get hold of his shotgun and fired twice at Wickersham, on load taking effect in the left arm and the other in the bowels. He used buckshot, and some seventeen of the shot took effect.
Wickersham came to this place from Stanford, where he was engaged in the saloon business, which occupation he followed at this place. He is a bad man when drunk, but harmless when sober. He was intoxicated when the row occurred this evening. He recently made a race for Chief of Police, and was only defeated by a small majority.
Colyer has been a policeman for about five years, and has always been a good officer. Wickersham is still alive, but can not live until morning. Colyer gave himself up to Sheriff Elrod and gave bond for his appearance tomorrow.
