Ariel map of Oak Hill Dairy, Somerset Ky
Ariel map of Oak Hill Dairy, Somerset Ky
Per Bobby Sidwell interview with his mother, June Avera, This shows where the Sam Colyer Oak Hill Dairy was in the 1920-40's. June Avera reported that her mother and father, Bob Avera and Elaine Colyer Avera lived in the farm house when first married and that June lived there from birth til about age 5. Sam Colyer lived on Monticello St, Somerset Ky so the farm house was secondary and he let Elaine, his daughter, live there when first married. Bob Avera's father's farm was across the street. See Sam Colyer diary this site mentioning Avera barn fire and see dairy cap photo for Oak Hill Dairy this site. In 2015, Bobby Sidwell reports that house and barn on this map of Oak Hill Dairy are original from 1930's.

In 1888 and 1898 Maranda Botkin sold land on current hwy 192 past current Blaze Valley Rd to the school district 64, to build the school. Evidently, it was later decided to locate the Blaze Valley school about a mile down Blaze Valley Rd next to a fresh water spring.

Bockee/Wheaton cemetery
Status: LocatedThis is photo of the Bockee/Wheaton cemetery on NY state route 83 near Smithfield NY. This cemetery is also known as the Federal Square Burying Ground near Amenia NY. This is where according to a 1903 book by M.D. Van Alystyne (entitled Burying Grounds of Sharon Connecticut, Amenia and Northeast NY published by Walsh, Griffen & Hoystradt Amenia NY ) that Joseph Curtis father of James Curtis is buried. My 2006 inspection of the cemetery confirmed that since 1903 Joseph Curtis grave stone has been lost. The 1903 book said the stone inscription said he died in 1785 of small pox.

Boone and Stoner painting at Duncan Tavern, Paris KY
This purportedly by artist William Ranney. It appears to be a copy of the George Caleb Bingham painting, but differences are apparent. It has not shown up in catalog of Ranney paintings in the book “Forging an American Identity: The Art of William Ranney” by Linda Bantel in 2006 presented by centerofthewest.org

Charles Granade Colyer cabin satellite photo
2015 aerial photo highlighted with red square of remains of Granade cabin. Current day farmer has added barn onto it and uses the cabin to store farm implements and hay. Light colored roof is believed to be the original house/log cabin remains. Current day this is at the end of Pitman Rd off Hwy 192. Per 90 yeard old Lyman Alexander 6/2/2019, whose family have lived in Ruth Ky for several generations, said that his father told him that Pitman Rd used to be the old Ruth Rd and that Ruth road followed Pitman Creek down to behind the current day 192 market.

Charles Granade Colyer grave
Charles Granade Colyer grave
Status: LocatedHere is picture of Clay Hill baptist church and cemetery where Charles Granade Colyer is buried as well as picture of Charles grave and that of his wife Louisa Jane Meece Colyer in Ruth Ky. Although it is known that Charles enlisted and fought for the south in the civil war, It is interesting to see his grave stone not being traditional confederate pointed top form as adopted by government in 1906. This and his membership in Knights of Pathias reconciliation fraternal organization may show his post war sentiments.
